End of the Blog

Well, this didn’t work. I’ve moved the links to the wiki, and encourage everybody to check in and comment over there. Since getting us all into a single place at a single time is so difficult, maybe we can converse via the wiki?

That’s the hope.

Classroom Facilities (mh)

Every building on campus seems to have its own issues and quirks. I’d like to compile a database-type resource so that any faculty can identify what equipment issues are present in any classroom. I’ll take on Walker Center, as that is where Arts & Sciences holds many of its Gen Ed classes. If the members over in other buildings will divvy up the rest of the campus buildings and send me the info, I’ll compile the larger document and post it on an OCU website. The info we need is literally classroom by classroom, and if you can determine the wifi coverage within the building that’d be great too. For example:

  • Walker Center 140 (WC140): full PC with projector; Mac compatible with adapter cable. Document camera. Pull down screen obscures 1/2 board; power switch for projector is on right side of chalkboard; volume control on left, just over the computer console. No remote control. For computer connection, input should be computer 2. Video capacity DVD, no VHS.  No adjustable lighting. Use of color on PPT may require room to be very dark. Very poor wifi for instructional use.
  • Walker Center 143 (WC143) full PC with projector; Mac compatible with adapter cable. Pull down screen obscures 2/3 board; power switch for projector and volume control on left of board, just over the computer console. No remote control. For computer connection, input should be _____. Video capacity DVD, no VHS. Locking cabinets may have old equipment. Sound system good, but speakers are installed in the ceilings, so sounds carry to neighboring classrooms and tend to disrupt classes there. Lighting adjustable. Very poor wifi for instructional use.
  • Walker Center 202 (WC202): full PC with projector; Mac compatible with adapter cable. Document camera. Pull down screen obscures 1/2 board; power switch for projector is on right side of chalkboard;  volume control on right, just over the computer console. No remote control. For computer connection, input should be computer 1. Video capacity DVD, no VHS. South facing windows do not darken well. No adjustable lighting. Very poor wifi for instructional use.

Scheduling Meetings

Obviously, for us to get anything accomplished, we need to meet. We can use the blog and email to communication… but so far? I’m the only one talking. How scary is that?? So I’m uploading the schedule of available times here. The times open are in the obnoxious orange. Not all of us need to attend every meeting, but we do need to get people there.

Here we are!

This is the weblog for our faculty learning community, and is intended as a discussion forum for our teaching with technology ideas, creations and other stuff. If you have stuff you want to link, do it! If you have questions, ask! The blog is open to the world, but only members of the group can create posts. Everybody else can comment, and comments are welcome.
